Polder Classic Cooking Thermometer

The Polder Classic Cooking Thermometer is an established cooking thermometer that has been around for several years. On the whole I have read a mixed bag of reviews although the company has an excellent reputation, it seems the latest models have been beset with problems and unhappy customers.

The Polder Classic comes with a probe and a long probe wire measuring 43 inches. This is the big difference compared to the wireless versions such as the Thermapen. The device is powered on a AAA battery. Unfortunately there is no on/off button so the thermometer is in constant use, but for only occasional use, the battery will last for 12 months and more.

The probe can measure temperatures in the range of 32 to 393 degrees Fahrenheit which covers any type of cooking. You can switch the readings to Celsius if desired. Useful if you have recipes that show Celsius figures.

It has a pre-settable alarm that goes off when it reaches a desired temperature and will continue for 5 minutes. The alarm can also be used as a timer (which counts up or down) and programmed to go off after a set amount of time has elapsed. It is only a timer and not a clock.

I like the memory setting with this thermometer. Basically you can save pre-set temperatures for foods that you know cooks perfectly at a particular temperature.

It comes with a pan clip and 2 rear-wall mount magnets which can attach to the side of an oven or grill.
